Door & window repair

A door that scrapes the floor, a lock that jams, a window that lets in dust and whistles in the wind: door and window repair, locks, and roll-down shutters, by a verified technician whose name and photo you see before they arrive.

Door & window repair

The bedroom door that only latches if you lean your shoulder into it once winter arrives. The window that whistles whenever the wind picks up at night. Small things, but they repeat every day until they feel like part of the house. Door and window repair usually fixes them without replacing the door or the window itself.

Some go beyond annoying: a lock that sticks and could leave you standing outside your own apartment, or a window that won't shut properly with the dusty spring winds on their way. In winter, the gap under the balcony door lets in a draft that everyone in the living room can feel. Every day you put it off means more dust on the floor and a colder night.

Small annoyances worth fixing

  • The door scrapes the floor or the frame, and you hear it before it closes.
  • The key turns only with effort, or the lock sticks until you jiggle the door.
  • The door has dropped on the hinge side, leaving a gap at the top on the opposite side.
  • Gaps around a door or window that let in dust and drafts, with a thin line of light showing even when it's shut.
  • The glass rattles in its frame when a truck goes by or on a windy day.
  • A wooden shutter has warped and no longer closes flush.
  • The roll-down shutter strap is frayed, or the shutter creeps down by itself.

Take a photo of the problem, or a short video of yourself opening and closing it, and attach it to the request. Once a technician accepts, you see their name and photo and can follow them on the map until they arrive. They check the problem in person and send a price in the app. If the price works for you, the visit fee is waived and you pay for the repair. If it doesn't, you pay only the visit fee.

What door and window repair covers

  • Changing lock cylinders, or the whole lock if its mechanism is worn, and adding a deadbolt or a second lock to the front door.
  • Adjusting hinges and alignment, and planing down an edge that rubs the floor or frame.
  • Replacing broken or cracked glass, and securing panes that rattle in their frames.
  • Fresh rubber seals for doors and windows, and a sweep under the balcony door to close the gap that lets the cold in.
  • Old wooden shutters and window sashes that have warped or won't latch, plus loose handles and latches.
  • Roll-down shutters: a new strap, or repairs to the roller tube and broken slats.
  • Mosquito screens for windows and balcony doors.

Common questions

My wooden door sticks in winter but is fine in summer. Does it need planing?

Wood absorbs moisture in winter and swells a little, so the door starts to stick. Before any planing, the technician checks the hinges, because a single loose hinge screw can be the whole problem. If it does need planing, they take off as little as possible, and the trimmed edge should be sealed with paint or varnish so it doesn't soak up moisture again.

Should I change just the lock cylinder, or the whole lock?

If the lock works fine and you just want new keys, or the key has become stiff to turn, a new cylinder is usually enough. If the latch doesn't catch, the handle has gone loose, or the mechanism sticks inside, the lock itself needs replacing. The technician takes it apart and tells you before you buy anything.

There's a gap under my front door that lets in dust and insects. Can it be closed?

Usually, yes. A small gap can be closed with a brush or rubber sweep fixed to the bottom of the door, while a wider or uneven one may need a threshold strip on the floor. Sometimes the gap is uneven because the door has dropped on its hinges, so the technician adjusts that first before choosing the fix.

My roll-down shutter came down and won't go back up. Can it be repaired?

Usually, yes. It could be a snapped strap, a broken slat caught in the track, or a problem with the roller tube inside the box. Photograph the strap and the box above the window and attach them to the request. Until the technician comes, don't force the shutter, so the slats don't break further.

My window glass broke. How should I handle it until the technician gets here?

Keep children and pets away, and pick up the large pieces wearing thick gloves. If the glass is cracked but still in the frame, run tape across it so it doesn't fall out. Cover the opening for now with cardboard or plastic sheeting, then photograph the frame and add its rough size to the request.
